In a world where Facebook asks you “What’s on your min” or Medium “Tell your story” here I am, asking you:
“What’s your dream?”
The reason why I am doing this is to make you reflect a little bit on your dreams.
Our dreams have been changing a lot during our lifetime. In our childhood, we have a set of ideas that will change in our youth and definitely will be different than those we will have in our adulthood.
Our dreams change according to our needs and while we might accomplish them or not.
From my experience, we live our lives with a lot of dreams that we don’t make them happen. And even though there are different reasons for that to happen, the most common is that we give up.
We, fully aware, give up on our dreams. And I cannot wonder why?
The simple characteristic of dreams is that they are our choices, and as we make them, we should respect it as well. If we appreciate some of our options, why are we giving up on our dreams?
But, as I said, the reasons are different. Sometimes we can just set a wrong set of dreams, or sometimes achieving those dreams will not truly fulfil us.
I’m very confident to say that #1 cause of giving up on our dreams is fear – the fear of failure or fear of success. It doesn’t, matter really which type it is, is just about fear.
Early in my youth stage, I had the luck to discover what means to follow one of my dreams, what is to be ambitious for what I want. In those times I found that if we want something, we will achieve it. I discovered the power that exists in ourselves, and we are the only one capable of moving forward or backwards.
Unfortunately, I experienced also moments when I couldn’t find that power. Maybe because those dreams that I thought that was my dreams turn out not to be my dreams; therefore, my inner strength couldn’t be engaged. Is very important to be able to know what triggers us.
An exercise that we could do is to go back and remember what made that dream to become a dream, first of all? Because if we find that trigger emotion, we can see if we have the same fulfilling feeling. And, if it is so, we need to follow and accomplish that dream.
If we don’t have the same emotion, we can always look for what happened on the way and take our learning from it. Trust me, there is a learning.
When you are talking and thinking about your dreams, remember that we live only once. And we don’t know where is the end. It could be tomorrow, in 1 year from now on or in 50 years from now on. But do you agree with me that if we would have a precise deadline, we are more inclined to start chasing now those dreams of ours?
If the answer is yes, let me ask you what stops you to not chasing it now?
Really what is your bottleneck?
